This is a chocolate spoon cake reciepe I found online. I haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds good.

Chocolate spoonful cake

Ingredients

  • For cake layers

    3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

    1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, softened

    1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

    1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

    1 3/4 cups sour cream

    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

    3 large eggs

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch-process)

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    For filling/frosting

    3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

    2 cups sour cream

    1 cup heavy cream

    1 cup confectioners’ sugar

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    For glaze

    3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped

    2 tablespoons unsalted butter

    1 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1/2 cup semiseet

    chocolate shavings, shaved with a vegetable peeler from a

    bar of chocolate, for coating side of cake

Instructions

    Make cake layers:

  1. Preaheat oven to 375 deg. F.. Butter and flour two 9- by
  2. 2-inch round cake pans, knocking out excess flour.
  3. In a double boiler or a metal bowl set over a pan of barely
  4. simmering water melt chocolate, stirring until smooth, and
  5. cool.
  6. In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat together butter
  7. and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in sour cream and
  8. vanilla until combined. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well
  9. with after each addition.
  10. In a bowl whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda,
  11. and salt and gradually add to sour cream mixture, beating
  12. until just combined. Beat in chocolate until batter is just
  13. combined and divide between pans.
  14. Bake layers in middle of oven until a tester comes out
  15. clean, about 30 minutes. Cool layers in pans on rack 10
  16. minutes and invert onto racks to cook completely.
  17. Make filling/frosting:
  18. In a double boiler or a metal bowl set over a pan of barely
  19. simmering water, melt chocolate and butter, stirring until
  20. smooth, and cool to room temperature. In a large bowl with
  21. an electric mixer beat together sour cream, heavy cream,
  22. confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla until thickened. Beat in
  23. chocolate until combined.
  24. Make glaze:
  25. In a double boiler or a metal bowl set over a pan of barely
  26. simmering water, melt chocolate and butter, stirring until
  27. smooth, and cool.
  28. Assemble cake:
  29. With a long serrated knife halve cake layers horizontally.
  30. Stack layers on a cake plate, spreading 1 cup
  31. filling/frosting between each layer. Spread side of cake
  32. with remaining filling/frosting.
  33. Pour glaze on top of cake, spreading to just cover top, and
  34. coat side with chocolate chips and shavings, pressing them
  35. in gently.
  36. Makes 1 cake.
