CakeMommyTX you can't entice us with your introduction and not give the recipe :) We're patiently waiting!

I guess I'll put it here until I fix it.

1 box BC Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake (w/ mini choco chips) 1 box DH Dark Chocolate Fudge cake 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup cocoa 2 cups sourcream 2 4oz pkg chocolate fudge instant pudding 8 eggs 1 cup veg oil 2 2/3 cup chocolate milk 2 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup mini choco chips

Sift dry ingrediants together and then add wet, mix until incorporated and then mix for 2 minutes. Bake at 325 until toothpick comes out clean. You may have to test a few times, sometimes I hit a choco chip and my toothpick comes out all messy. You can't really half the recipe because the flavor comes from the combo of the 2 chocolate mixes so it makes a lot of cake.

I use 2" pans . . . filling them half full would work? I know some recipes do not rise as much so they need to be 2/3 full. Thanks, sounds yummy!!! Can't wait to try!

on

I am sorry to question you. However I am confused. Do I follow the directions on the 2 boxed mixes, or do I just follow your directions? I also would like to know what size pans do you use, as well as a starter time to go by. Do I bake the cake for 20 min. then check from there or do I follow the boxes directions? Thank you.....

on

I use 2" pans, and this recipe will fill 4-8" rounds or 2-10" rounds and 2-6" rounds or 2-9X13" or 1-11X15" pan, or 4-6 dozen cupcakes depending on how full you fill your tins. Sometimes I have a bit left over and I bake it in a 4" round for snacking, it's a lot of batter. I don't use a timer I just bake until the cakes start to smell done and then I check it. It's a denser cake then a straight box mix and bakes at a lower temp so takes longer then the box directions, I'm thinking about 40 mins in a regular oven (don't know about convection). The only directions I follow on the box are the liquid measurments and the oil.

on

Great recipe! I've tried in now in cupcakes and 9" rounds and works really well and tastes great! Thanks so much for sharing!

on

Here's a hint when using this recipe: do not attempt with less than a 6 qt mixer. I think I just drowned my 5 qt. lol It smells incredible!

on

If I'm making my "Chocoholics Anonymous Cake " then I fill it with chocolate ganache and ice it with chocolate butter cream. But usually I use vanilla butter cream, but since it's chocolate it goes well with just about anything, coconut cream, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, cherry, etc.

on

So just to be sure, you use your ingredients plus the vegetable oil and eggs on the box? Thanks!

on

Just to clarify the liquid and oil measurments in the recipe are the same as on the box however just follow the recipe and disregard any directions on the box. I hope that makes sense, I did'nt want to confuse anyone by saying I follow the measurments on the box, I only used those to gauge how much to add to the recipe, I don't follow the recipe and then add additional liguid and oil per the box directions. Okay so that sounds even more confusing, basically just throw the box away and follow the recipe. :)

I made this cake in my search for the perfect chocolate cake. It is the Holly Grail. It is very chocolate-y, has a dense texture but it melts in your mouth. It rose very well, better than any cake I've ever made. I bought all the ingredients as per the recipe but when I got home, I emptied the two cake mixes into a large bowl, measured and then divided in half. I made a half batch of cake and put the other half of the dry cake mix in a freezer bag for use at some other time. I used two 8" rounds and the batter fit them nicely. It took close approx 45 minutes to bake. I just used some vanilla almond buttercream to frost and next time I will try a chocolate frosting, just to see if I can completely founder myself while eating it. LOL I am grateful for this recipe and the brilliant chef who posted it.

on

Question. And it might sound silly. Do you make the pudding as per directions or do you just put the mix into the cake mix.

on

Leewhitmire, I am pretty sure that you just put in the powdered pudding mix. I can't wait to try this cake. I have an 11 x 15 sheet cake to do in chocolate and this is the one that I am gong to do!

on

This has got to be one of the best cakes I've tasted! I made it and split the dry ingredients for future use. I halved the rest of the ingredients and made the most perfect cupcakes. They rose pretty high and were moist and rich. Half the recipe got me 30 regular sized cupcakes. There were a couple of changes, instead of the DH Dark Chocolate Fudge cake, I used DH Devil's Food, and the fudge was just regular chocolate. I topped these with a cream cheese buttercream. Yummy!

on

"...and the fudge was just regular chocolate" Meant to say that instead of chocolate fudge pudding, I used regular chocolate pudding.

on

I just made this cake, and it is awesome, nice chocolate flavor, rises real well and super moist. I made this with vanilla carmel buttercream frosting, thank you so much for super receipe, will use this for my chocolate cake from now on!!!!!!

on

WOW!! This cake was sooo good! Instead of making a filling for it I bought triple chocolate fudge icing with mini chocolate chips. Everyone loved it! I even had a few phone calls after the party to see if there was any left for seconds! Thank you so much for the recipe!

I am going to attempt to make a 3D lighthouse cake in a few months and was going to use a recipe that I found on Cake Central website for 3D cakes and wedding cakes but maybe I should use this one!! Once I make the cake, if it turns out to be presentable, I want to auction it off for a non-profit art gallery that I am raising funds for (www.veithstreetgallery.org) for all you who might like to take a peek!!! We are having a Gala Event on June 18th that involves a silent auction. SHHHHH!

This cake is so awesome! It's very moist & very chocolatey! I halved the recipe (1/2 DH mix & 1/2 BC). I only had sugar free choc pudding, so I added some sugar (1 cup). I also added 1/4 tsp salt (b/c of the sugar) & 1/3 strong coffee (in replacement of 1/3 cup choc. milk). I used Hershey's dark cocoa & chopped some Ghirardelli choc. chips. I used a 10 x 3 pan, and the cake rose all the way to the top. The texture was also great and could be used for stacking or carving.

on

I used this recipe for a wedding cake I was doing. Now it is the most wanted cake for me to make. It really is great to work with and soo chocolatey. Thanks for the recipe.

on

I am going to make this cake tonight and I have one question. Can anyone let me know if the 1/2 cup of mini choc chips is in addition to the ones that are already in the BC Cake Mix. I know this is probably a silly question but I just want to be certain that I am doing this correctly...

Count me in as a convert! I made this cake this weekend for a friend's wedding, her groom wanted as much chocolate as I could get in a cake and this cake didn't disappoint! I made a two tiered stacked cake with chocolate buttercream ganache frosting and it was a hit. I did brush each of the (three per tier) layers with a raspberry jam and water glaze for moistness as I was working on it for longer than usual. It was a hit at the reception and the groom was completely happy! I'm looking forward to making chocolate bread pudding out of my "scraps" - none of this cake should go to waste! Thank you Cake mommy for my new chocolate cake recipe.

on

I have to agree that this cake is fabulous. I used it for a birthday in March and now I'm doing a graduation cake for this weekend. I found the cake overflowed because the recipe I usually use from this site doesn't rise much and I expected the same from this. This time I'm ready for it!

on

I LOVE this recipe been using it for a while now. Just an FYI if you have troule finding the dark chocolate cake mix, like I do... Using 2 boxes of the Triple Chocolate fudge and or Chocolate fudge cake mixes - Brand doesn't matter (have had trouble finding the "Triple" flavor too)....and using Dark chocolate cocoa...works REALLY well!

Definitely one of my most favorite cake recipes no matter how u mix it!!!

on

I halved this recipe and subbed crushed oreos for the choc chips and cookies and creme pudding for the fudge pudding, and it was AMAZING! Thank you so much for this recipe! :)

on

Made this today, substitution strong coffee for chocolate milk. It is DELICIOUS! Best cake I have ever had. Been letting it rest all day and getting ready to carve. I'll let you know how it turns out! Thanks a ton!

on

Had a thought..... im actually in the need of a MOCHA cake flavor and was wondering if anyone has ever modified this recipe for such a flavor variation.

I LOVE this cake normally but i was thinking about changing out the Choco milk to coffee (or an actual Latte if you think the milk in particular is important) instead of sour cream use coffee yogurt....

With all the chocolate, do you think the coffee flavor will come through? what do you think?

on

Man.. I think I am the only one, but it was not as flavorful as I hoped. I think having so many chocolate things mixed together kinda muted them all so nothing shined for me. It's ok, but did not wow me like I thought it would. It also could be the two boxes of chocolate cake I tried, The store did not have the exact ones so I had to pick other ones. The cake was moist and dense and easy to cut and fill. The boys liked it!

on

I used this recipe back in August for a birthday cake. Some how it was deleted from my favorites and I have spent the last 3 days digging all over this site for it. YAYYYYYYYYYYYY i found it!!! This is our favorite chocolate cake recipe!! :D

on

I just wanted to say Thank you! This is a great cake and I always get rave reviews. I fill it with Cookies 'n cream Costco mousse and extra crushed Oreos. Crazy moist and carves well. Not too sweet.

on

Hi I want to use this receipe for a wedding cake and wondering long in advance I can make this and it will still stay fresh? Also is it good to stack tiers as the cake I am making is 3 tier and the Bridge wants chocolate for the bottom tier.

on

anyone try this with only BC cake mix brands because all my grocery stores only carry DH orange dream, red velvet, and carrot cake mixes. I bought the BC triple choco and the BC dark chocolat and I am hoping it works....

on

This is the most wonderful chocolate cake recipe ever. I will never use another one again. It rises sooooo beautifully and is sturdy enough to handle and trim. I have been using BC Triple Chocolate Fudge and DH new Decadent Triple Chocolate, because that's what my Wal-Mart has. Thank you cakemommy for this awesome recipe!

on

Can't wait to try this! I already use the BC triple chocolate mix as my base for my chocolate cakes, but this sounds divine. Sounds exactly like what I've been looking for, thanks so much for sharing!

I just made this for a baby shower where the momma requested "death by chocolate". So I delivered! I could not find the dark chocolate fudge cake mix, or the chocolate fudge pudding, but used devil's food and regular chocolate instead. It was perfect amount for a 12" square double layer. I then iced the cakes with chocolate ganache, and covered with Satin Ice dark chocolate fondant. I was expecting people to say it was going to be too rich, or too much chocolate, but instead I was told it was the best chocolate cake they had ever had. It had the right ratio of chocolate, without excessive sweetness and I think that is what really made it work well. The cake was moist, yet dense enough to hold up to trimming and I could not stop eating them. Usually I do not eat my cakes if I am attending the party, by the time I get there I am so done with "tasting" that I just can't. Well I have to say I ate a piece of this, and even took some home! The father to be couldn't stop picking at the cake for the rest of the night. I did not save it to my favorites before, but I did now. Can't wait to make different variations of this now!!!

on

Thank you so much for this recipe! I hate to be redundant, but this was by far the best chocolate cake I have ever made or tasted. I got RAVE reviews from my guests!! This will definitely be my go-to chocolate cake recipe from now on! This time around I used a Cream Cheese Frosting, but I'm so excited to try it with other fillings and frostings! Next up will be a white chocolate ganache!

on

I'm going to try this one today at 7000 feet. Anyone else at a high altitude? I just moved here. It seems I have to bake cakes CRAZY hot. And I usually have to add 1/4 cup of flour per 2 - 9" cakes. It doesn't have any extra bs or bp which I find kills me at this altitude. It is so crummy trying to learn to bake again!!

I would love to use this recipe for a wedding cake I am preparing for St. Patrick's Day. I would like to stack 2 9X13 inch cakes and then a bread pan on top. Would I have to use dowels. I have never stacked a cake before. Also, can anyone think of a St. Patrick's filling or buttercream frosting. Thanks. Pam52

on

hello anybody somebody please tell me if this cake is stackable and good under fondant..please I need to know.

Thanks :)
