- 8 medium/ 3 lb bag of granny smith apples 4 cups + 1/2 c water 1 1/2 T lemon juice 1 c white sugar 1 c packed brown sugar 1 t ground cinnamon 1/4 t nutmeg 1 1/2 t salt 1/2 c cornstarch
Peel and core apples, and then chop them into very small cubes. Place apples in pot and add the 4 cups of water, and all other ingredients except reserved water and cornstarch. Stir frequently, and cook until apples are soft, about 25-30 minutes. Mix remaining cool water and cornstarch, and slowly combine with apple mixture. Stir frequently until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat. Filling will thicken as it cools.
