I live in MO in the summer and TX in the winter. Both of my kitchens have the pro mixer. I absolutely love both of my pro Kitchen Aids. Very sturdy and wonderful for breadmking. I still wish that you could lift the body , so that you could work with the ingrediants better.

I agree. Also, It is very, very noisy. I have actually worn ear muffs while mixing my buttercreams!
I LOVE my KA mixer.....however.....if I could change anything, I would make it a lot less noisy!! Sometimes I'm up late baking and at 2am when all else is quiet, it sounds like a freight train!! I would also give it a tilt head like the Artisan model for easier quick access to the bowl. It's difficult enough getting to the bowl, but with the splash guard in place, its next to impossible. And to avoid liquids splashing and powdered sugar flying everywhere, the splash guard is necessary.
Do like many bakeries do - we do not use splash guards. Just put a kitchen towel over the mixer to avoid messes. Hope this helps.
I love mine; however, I thought I got stuck with a noisy one. I feel better that others find it to be extremely loud too. I never thought of ear muffs -- hmmmm. I do have ear plugs, maybe I'll try those.
"freight train" sounds about right. I thought there was something dreadfully wrong at first till I talked to some friends that went from a 4 quart to a 6 quart and had the same issue. It's just plain LOUD!
