A First Wedding Cake

A First Wedding Cake on Cake Central

The bottom and third tier are Chocolate Fudge cake filled with raspberry preserves and chocolate ganache. The basketweave tiers are Red Velvet. All the cakes were frosted with buttercream. As the bride and groom are a Music teacher and an Air Force Band member, I used chocolate transfer sheets to wrap the chocolate tiers in Mozart. This was the first wedding cake I ever made that I sold. It was my 3rd wedding cake attempt.

WOW! I love the musical chocolate transfers. This is amazing. Congrats! How much did you charge if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, I poured melted chocolate over a transfer sheet that I had cut to size. I used icing to "glue" the panels to the cakes, peeled the acetate off, and then added the borders to help hold them in place. As to what I charged, I gave her the cake for what I guessed would be the cost of ingredients. I think I made about $10. *lol* But, she's a friend.

Thank you so much for your kind comments! I was very nervous about giving her the special cake she deserved. This site was SO helpful while I was planning and executing this cake. I have used the chocolate transfers for several years on other cakes. I've always ordered from Beryl's.

What a beautiful cake! You did a wonderful job. Your friend was truly lucky to have you as her friend and cake baker/decorator.

Spectacular! Vey original. I know your friend was very grateful ... but charge next time! You are very good at what you do and have a great career ahead of you!

Again, you're all very generous with your compliments! :D The roses were fresh and the florist put them on the cake. As to my having a great career making wedding cakes, I don't have any intentions of continuing to make these cakes except for family and special friends. It's too intense! You all have my admiration for doing as many cakes as you do!

This is so beautifully elegant. The music score is just beautiful on the side of the tiers and your basketweave is great! You should be soooo proud!

Again, thank you all so much. That was the best part of using the chocolate transfers. It made the cake very different and gave it the "wow" factor, but really the cake was very basic otherwise.....just a simple basketweave and borders. Believe me, I have very, very few decorating skills. Doing a wedding cake scared me half to pieces! I was SO afraid it was going to fall over! I am curious though, what WOULD you have charged for this cake? The layers are 14, 12, 10 and 8, with a 9 inch side cake....
