My Colette Cake

My Colette Cake on Cake Central

I've been wanting to do a version of something I saw in a Colette Peters book for a while. Bottom is red velvet with cream cheese filling, top is caramel almond. All covered in MMF with MMF accents painted with luster dust.

Wow, thanks guys!! I'm actually eating a big piece of it right now lol. I was making it for practice to give away but got a cold in the process so decided it was best it didn't leave the house. Oh well, more cake for me :)

It really is stunning, and the paper you've placed it on sets it off beautifully - well done, and I hope it helps ease your cold!

WoW! That really looks great. Caramel Almond sounds delish, I'd like that recipe. Did you get it from the cc website?

very awesome! great job! - hey you can always cut cake from the back for yourself and then you can give the rest to someone else - it still looks pretty from the front! :) LOL

Susanscakebabies, I bought the Colette Peters book and had been itching to do it for a while but didn't have a reason, so I finally broke down and did it just for practice. I was going to give it to a lady that just moved in to the apartment next door but I caught a cold and didn't think sharing my cake AND my cold would be the best way to welcome her to the neighborhood! Lol. Thanks again guys, you're the best!! :-D

Mary-ann, I started out with 9 and 6 inch rounds of cake and carved them to shape and covered them in fondant. I traced the pattern onto the fondant using a tracing wheel and painted each with several coats of luster dust to get the deep color. I also made the roses and leaves ahead of time and painted them too. Then it was just a matter of stacking and putting the roses in place. It was time consuming but fairly simple at the same time! :)

This cake is absolute perfection! Stunning, gorgeous, amazing. I love all of your cakes, and I really love the way you match the cake board paper to the cake ... it adds SO MUCH! Colette would be SO PROUD if she saw this!!!!!

This is really great... I have just ordered her book and am going to try to make something similar for my friends birthday. How sturdy of a cake do you need to make in order to carve it into this shape. Any recommendations on where to look for a chocolate cake recipe for this type of cake? Is it in her book?

I am enjoying everything about this cake sxcept unfortunately the cake board. I think it distracts and does not match your beautiful work!

Sooo gorgeous. I just love the colors and the sparkle from the luster dust. And the amazing round shape of the cakes. This is just so fun to look at!
