Chocolate Heart's Desire Cake
Chocolate Heart's Desire Cake
Uploaded By: bobwonderbuns
This wasn't actually a Valentine's Cake but rather a Rosh Hashanah cake by special commission. The cake is iced in chocolate buttercream and the roses are chocolate buttercream which were chilled and then drybrushed with lustre dust for an antiqued look. I used fall and metallic colors which stand out better on chocolate since it was Fall and I happen to love those particular colors.

I am collecting ideas for my son's groom cake. I want the WOW factor and not stacked. Your cake is gorgeous. On top of a chocolate sheet cake would be perfect. They have not even set the date yet but I want to be prepared. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

addietx, this is a very easy cake to do. Just buttercream and roses! I've done it several times in various shapes for men (last one was done as a square cake for an 18 year old boy's birthday.) It's very popular with my male clients. And you're right, stacked on a sheet cake it would be awesome. I did something similar to that (look in my pix for the gilded monogram cake.) And remember, the darker colors of lustre dust show up better on chocolate. Hope that helps some! Very Happy

Critique group member: I have seen luster dusted chocolate before and am always stunned at how pretty it appears. This is one way to spruce up the "one trick pony or BC roses - huh!" My critique is the cake board is two small and should be 2 to 3 inches bigger.
