Chinese Lantern

Done for the first birthday of a little girl adopted from Korea. Sugar flower hibiscus. This variety is the Korean national flower. "Metal" topper is floral wire and fondant (not enough time for gumpaste to dry -BIG BUMMER! I absolutely prefer ALL edible!). Two 6", 2 layers, doweled and stacked (strawberry and lemon) . I made the table from simple precut wood pieces found at Michael's (a plaque and glued on napkin holders for the legs - cost me about $9 to make). Glued down 1" of foam core as the lantern "base" with 1/2" foam core as my bottom cake plate. I wanted to screw it to secure it but didn't have any washers. Dowel running through all to the wood - perfectly sturdy for this size of cake). Covered in MMF. Branches and flowers are MMF. Dry dusted with antique bronze luster dust. Thanks for lookin'!
