I wrote a long, colorful thread about this in the cake disasters forum when this happened in 2007, but since the Remy met such a violent end, I thought he belonged in here too. There are pics of this cake in my gallery from (obviously) before the cake rejected my darling rat and hurled him to the floor along with the lovingly painted fondant. I went on to write about 1000 posts trying to get to the bottom of how to wrap a tall cake in fondant, since clearly my chosen technique did not work! Meanwhile, I was able to re-ice the cake with straight buttercream...not the same as cool copper fondant, but it worked ok and at least no longer looked like it had been attacked by Remy's family.
