50 & 60th Library Books Dual Cake
50 & 60th Library Books Dual Cake
Uploaded By: nicolevoorhout
I was asked to make a cake for one of the ladies I work with for her 60th birthday she wasn't very forthcoming in ideas and then decided to combine it with another colleague who was turning 50. As they are both librarians I decided to go with the books. Then I had this fab idea to turn it into a trick cake turn it one way and it's the cake for the 50th, turn it around and it's the cake for the 60th! So yes this is one cake just pictures from different angles!

Wonderful cake. The books are just flawless. How did you make them? Is it all one cake?

Yes it's two cakes but then I wasn't happy with the height, so I cut one third off each cake and stacked the third layer on top all glued together with yummy chocolate ganache! Fondant strips create the books. Much easier than trying to do them individually! ;D

Those are amazing! They look kind of like the books Charm City Cakes made on Food Network tonight. They were for a Library. Fabulous job!!!

This is absolutely fantastic. Great work. How did you get the fondant to stay up - did you mix it with gumpaste to make it stiffer??

Thank you everyone. msulli 10: No I didn't add anything to the fondant, although the chocolate fondant here is already considerably stiffer than regular I just cut the strip out, and used a little water to dampen one side and then pressed it against the cake and used a large smoother pressed against it to hold it there for 30 secs or so until it had stuck to the ganache.
