Aqua MadHatter for Bat Mitzvah
Aqua MadHatter for Bat Mitzvah

(I think I went a little overboard on the wire decorations, whoops! LOL) This cake design copied her invitations for the Bat Mitzvah. Buttercream-iced cakes with fondant details & gumpaste/wire decorations and banner. I hand-cut the "E" topper (made two, they were so fragile I was scared I was going to break one!)

I disagree! Don't think you went overboard. I love the wire decorations...how did you make them? I haven't had the best luck doing it. Thanks for sharing.

I just used very thinly-rolled gumpaste and cut out the various sizes of circles, let those dry and then glued them on top of each other to make the patterns. I let those dry again overnight and then attached the wires onto the backs using thick royal icing. I then took all the leftover gumpaste colours and mixed them all together to make the "E" topper. That gave it a marbled appearance.

Thanks so much! I'd love to have you here in Toronto. Laughing It was actually a girl who got this, named Emma. (Bat Mitzvah for a girl, bar mitzvah for a boy.)

I think it's a lot easier when you use IMBC. It's the only creamy icing I use.
