Hi CC'ers
I've been asked to make a cake for my boss' birthday and since he is a running enthusiast, I am thinking that I would to make a sneaker cake.
Does anyone have instructions on how to carve and decorate this kind of cake? This would be my first carved cake so I am looking that a newbie could do.
Thanks,
Stacey
You might also ask JenniferMI who did an amazing pair of sneakers cake for her son. I've always wondered how she did them. http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=868583
Hi!
This is the one and only pair I've made. I was really happy with how they came out. I had the shoe sitting right there.... next to my cakes. I stacked long loaf like cakes and just started, ever so slowly, carving to fit the contour and height of each shoe. You can make them larger than life, but you want the same curves, cuts. After I got them carved, I covered in my semi-homemade white choc. fondant (THIN layer). Then added detail from there. I did airbrush the hole that your foot would go into. Carving cakes is just time consuming...go slow....really study the shoe.
If I can help, yell ok?

Oh, one more important detail. Notice how the toe goes UP from the table...like a real shoe does. This is kick it up a notch in the realism dept. Just carve it upward a bit. If you feel better, add a scewer in that area for extra support.
Hope this helps!

Those are some awesome sneakers!
LOL!
OMG ....that pair took me 9 hrs. to make. That would be like a week of shooting - LOL!
Who knows.... maybe SOMEday...we'll see

Waaait a minute! Okay, I can sort of believe that JenniferMI made this amazingly realistic cake in only 9 hours, I can even believe that someday, maybe I will feel confident enough to try a sneaker cake, but come on! Are you asking us to believe that this is an authentic replica of a real boy's shoe??? What real kid in the history of boys has ever kept a shoe looking like that? If I made a sneaker modeled after any of the shoes from any of my kids They would come with ripped out heels, scuffed everything and greying shreds of laces.
Fabulous work by the way.
Well I've been to Jen's house and I've seen those particular shoes -- they're the real deal!
LOL Spuddymom!!! Ok...so they looked like that when they were NEW! LOL
They were his bastketball shoes, so those really didn't get to dirty, just used on the court.
Jen
Will I ever be able to make anything like that?. I just bought a coach bag and clogs and dying to replcate both as a cake for my birthday, but have no idea.......and 9hrs. My guest will probably meet me still carving.lol
So glad I found this! I'm doing a tap shoe pair cake for my boss, and this will be so helpful!
