Has anyone made this? does it taste good? If possible can I use your recipe?
Ty,
Chippi
CHOCOLATE ROYAL ICING
- 1 lb CANE powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup cocoa
- 7 tablespoons warm water
- 3 tablespoons powdered egg whites (meringue powder)
Directions:
* Mix powdered sugar, cocoa and egg whites.
* Slowly add warm water and beat until the icing is the med consistency. Use full strength for outlining and dilute with more water for thin consistency as needed.
Yes I have googled it but was hoping that someone here in the cookie forum had actually tried it. Did not want to waste money if it wasn't any good. Plus there was only a few write ups on it and I wanted to get the cookie expertise maker's opinions on here.
I made some football cookies and used cocoa in the RI to get the color. I thought it tasted great. I just sifted a couple of tablespoons of cocoa right with the powdered sugar.
O Ok. well the recipe I posted I found on the internet. DId you look in the recipe section on CC?
Here is a pic if you wanted to see what they looked like. They were for a super bowl party. http://cakecentral.com/gallery/158393

Thanks Dynee, the footballs look great and that was the reassurance I needed to make chocolate royal icing!
I think there was one recipe on here sugarlover, thank you for your help also!

I used it to make the baskets on my bunny rabbit cookies and it tasted great. You should give the recipe a try.
I make and use "Chocolate RI" all the time. I just add some cocoa powder to my already made RI... I do that instead of adding food coloring every time I make brown, and even use it as the base before adding black. Works great, and everyone loves it!
Whenever I need to get a nice brown color, I use unsweetened cocoa powder (just add it to the regular RI recipe). It gives the royal icing a nice chocolate flavor.
