Looking For Car 3D Cake Carving Tutorials...
Decorating By G_Cakes Updated 22 Oct 2009 , 2:46am by HBcakes
I am making a carved car cake for a family friends son's 8th birthday.
He is a BIG Jimmy Johnson Nascar fan and I would like to make him a car shaped cake that looks like his favorite Nascar Driver.
I am hoping that someone out in CC land has made a tutorial or knows where I might find one on how to do a carved car cake.
My big question is how to support the car so that it appears to be sitting on the wheels and not laying flat like a big ol' slab of cake.
Would love a link or a message if you have made one
Thanks for reading
Relznik on the British Cake Guild Forum has a tutorial on the plinth for a car

You will probably have to register to view.
Also Nati (boonenati) has a car tutorial on her website

There is also a 3D cakepan made for Nascar cakes. It is no longer available but I do have the kit from a few years ago and it includes the cakepan, edible decals etc... I am willing to sell it to you if you are interested.PM me...
Here is what I am talking about...

I was just about to make another post about a carved car cake. Thanks for posting this and thank you for the great links
Another option is to purchase Mike McCarey's DVD on cars. It is a two-hour tutorial on making detailed cars - well worth the investment. Check out mikesamazingcakes dot com -
Good old AUSTRALIAN mudcake !! needs to be dense - fine grain - so that it can be carved.
My tip...... invest in GOOD knives - Small Victorinox paring knife, large long bladed scalloped edge knife (no serrations)
Here is a Nascar cake that I did using Mike McCarey's DVD; his way is similar to SugarShack's, but it goes a little bit deeper as far as the details of the car goes.

Also, look for Bellatheball; she gives a step by step tutorial on Flickr.

Also, for Mike McCarey's DVD, just google mike's amazing cakes and the link to his website will come up and you can find it there. It's an awesome DVD, well worth the money.

(edited to add) Oh, when you go to Bella's flickr page; PLEASE make sure you read what she's saying in the tutorial; it's informative and it's SUPER funny!!
Thank you so much Aundron...I am a hands on kind of gal, and looking at those pictures I think I can actually pull it off LOL.
The commentary on the pictures is priceless and way to funny!
Thanks again
You've probably already got what you needed from the previous posts, but I do also have a myspace where I've posted step-by-step pictures of some of my 3D car projects. My system is similar to SugarShacks. My URL for the Myspace is myspace.com/hbanmancakes. Go to my photo albums and you'll see the separate albums for some of the cars.
Good luck!!
