I love finding cake tools that are intended for other uses. I asked my dh to help me cut a 12 inch round cake board out of foamcore. He pulled out his drywall circle cutter. Not only does it make a perfect circle but it cuts through the foam with no mess. Simply choose the size of circle you want and use the tool like a math compass. If you are using the thicker foamcore you can turn it over and trace on the other side too and viola a nice circle board ready to use.

Hi mommyofseven it is great finding new cool tools. Between my grandchildren (playdough) and son (drywall) I have alot of interesting things in my tool box. thumbs_up.gif

There are alot of drywall tools that are perfect for decorating.

Well, after reading Mommyfoseven's post, I purchased my own drywall circle cutter and wouldn't trade it for anything. Works great!

Yay!!! So glad I found this thread!!! Thank you for sharing that. I HATE using a an exacto to cut my boards (not the little one, but the bigger one that's easier to grip) - it's so hard to get the edges smooth.

bobwonderbuns.........thanks for making me lol at your comment!!!!! I also wouldn't mind one , I've yet to try the foam cord board. Is it sturdy to stack tiers on? I love using the large plastic plumbers pipe for making ribbons and bows.

Thanks for sharing, it is so cool. I have been looking for a tool like this to cut baking paper for the bottom of the pans. Oh god, I am so excited I might go and buy it tonight.

I know you can buy scrapbooking cutters that cut circles similar to this. I am guessing though a drywall tool is a lot cheaper!!

I used to use a hacksaw for cutting dowels. Now I just use a fab pair of secatuers!

Ever been to the "cake board store" and can't decide which sizes of boards to buy, and in what amounts? Will I do 10 12 inch cakes this month? Will I do 4 10 inch cakes in the next 3 months? Who the heck knows?

Seriously...how much easier is it to just buy foam core and be able to cut it out easily and less messily?

I should SOOOO write infomercials...but really, OP...great find.
