Combination Happy Birthdayfarewell Cake For The Student Teacher In My Sons Class Chocolate Cake With Fresh Strawberries Between The Laye
Combination Happy Birthday/Farewell cake for the student teacher in my son's class. Chocolate cake with fresh strawberries between the layers frosted with whipped cream frosting. It's a pain to letter with whipped cream frosting... just sayin! And I couldn't get a smooth finish on the top to save my life, so if anyone has any tips, I'd be ever so grateful!

Rushed Birthday Cake For My Husband
I threw this cake together for my husband in less than 4 hours while I was cooking dinner (fun times that). White Almond Sour Cream cake with homemade huckleberry filling and extra special buttercream. The top decorations are too big and sloppy, but I love how the sides turned out. I wanted to switch out my tip and do a small shell border around the top, but I just didn't have time. At least it tasted good! lol

Wilton Flowers Class Cake 2
This is one of 4 mini cakes I did for my final in my Wilton flowers class. It is frosted in blue buttercream. The Lily and rose are royal icing and the smaller flowers are a mix of fondant and gumpaste with royal icing centers. The leaves are also a mix of gumpaste and fondant. The white dots are buttercream.

Cake For Mizzou Cake Challenge 2011
This was my entry fro the Mizzou Cake Challenge 2011 judged by Duff Goldman. I did several things on this cake that I had never done before. I had never stacked a cake, worked with modeling chocolate or gumpaste, made flowers, leaves and ferns. I have never used the brushed gelatin nor had I ever used piping gel, royal icing or gold glaze. I didn't have a brick mat, so all those bricks are done by hand with a ball tool and then hand painted. All the hand painting is done with a vodka/amerigel color combination. Everything on the cake is either a landmark of Mizzou or part of the Mizzou culture. I had never been to the Mizzou campus before the competition and I just worked off of pictures on the internet.

Wilton Basic Class Final Cake
This is my final class for the first Wilton class. I used the upside down icing method on the base cake. The flowers on the top are frozen drop flowers, but the ones on the side had to be done directly on the cake due to breakage. The vines are hand piped. It is done all in buttercream.

Royal Flush Hand Of Cards Cake
This is a cake I made for a Poker themed table at Dh's unit Christmas party. It is 2 12x18 WASC cakes put together and carved, crumb coated with buttercream, then covered in MMF (boy was THAT a chore in my tiny kitchen!!) and then hand painted. The Ace has USDB in the details as that is where Dh works.

Sfc Promotion Cake For My Husband
9x13 WASC cake, cut in half, stacked, carved, buttercreamed, and covered with homemade MMF. The rank is hand painted with gel/vodka mix. This *would* have turned out better, but I had to rush making the original cake. Then I had to hide it in the back of the fridge after crumbcoating, because the ceremony got postponed for 5 days! lol Then I had to run home and have it hand painted before my husband got home from work! He was surprised though. I thought it didn't turn out too badly considering.... and I broke my own track record of 1 cake a year! lol

Airplane Cake
This is the cake I made for my son's airplane themed 6th birthday party. My husband made the frame for the cake. This is carved out of 4 9x13 cakes. I layered WASC and devil's food cake, crumb-coated with homemade buttercream and covered with homemade MMF. The wings and tail piece are MMF covered foam core board, and the engines are MMF rice krispie treats. There was *supposed* to be cotton batting clouds underneath... but the cotton batting went missing. All the details are hand painted. There was supposed to be a red stripe on the engines, also, but I ran out of time.

Firetruck Cake #1
Picture of the cake that I did for my son's 5th birthday party today. This is my first time ever working with Fondant, and I know there are plenty of flaws... but overall I'm very pleased with the end result. All the details are hand painted, except for the wheels, the windows and the 2 yellow hoses. I used Satin Ice brand fondant (YUM!) and did a 2 layer cake, WASC and Devil's food. Here is the truck my cake is based on: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/shaibaer/firetruck.jpg
