Minnie Mouse Cake For Icing Smiles
We are volunteers with the Icing Smiles organization. We just had the opportunity to make a 6th birthday cake for a sweet birthday girl. The family wasn't picky, they just wanted Minnie Mouse on the cake. We aren't exactly angels when it comes to following copyright law, but we don't dare to mess with Disney. But since this cake was a donation with no charge to the family, we are allowed to recreate copyrighted characters. At least we checked with the Icing Smiles folks and their lawyers said it was okay to make these cakes for charity. The Minnie Mouse was the most time consuming part of the cake. I'm not proud to say it took me about eight hours. I don't make figures very well, so I'm slow and sometimes I have to "redo". This Minnie had three sets of ears and two bows. I used Choco-pan modeling chocolate just for the face because it's great for sculpting. I'm sorry, but it's too soft for other things that I use homemade modeling chocolate. I'm happy that she looks like Minnie and not a generic version, but I think I could do better next time. I also forgot to put on her blush.

Millennium Falcon Birthday Cake
I made this as a birthday cake for a special young man recently. He wanted a big Star Wars cake. The spaceship didn't exactly lend itself to lots of cake, so instead of making an armature for the ship to sit on, I just cut the whole thing out of cake and covered the parts of the cake I didn't want to seen in black fondant. It gave me the extra servings I needed without making kitchen cakes, and I spent the majority of my time decorating instead of cutting wood and pipe for the armature. For reference, the cake is sitting on a 22"x22" board (the biggest board that will fit in my refrigerator! You can see a quick filpagram of the making of this cake on my Instagram page: http://instagram.com/p/w5FCXIgTf3/

Camera Lens Groom's Cake
I met with a couple recently who had their heart set on a sculpted camera for their groom's cake. But their budget wasn't anywhere close to the time that would have taken. This was our compromise, which is just the camera lens. This is basically a double barrel cake wrapped in textured fondant with a smaller cake as the lens. We used an edible image for the very top of the cake.

Stacked Books Groom's Cake
It seems like books are a popular item to make in cake, at least it has been in my experience. I recently made this book stack as a groom's cake for a wedding. They were very specific about the books and the order. And for 1984 they wanted it to be an old design of the book - using no edible images. Good thing we love a good cake challenge! We wound up finding a first edition of 1984 on sale on Ebay. They wanted over $2500 for it, so we just used the scans to make a cut file template and cut the letters out using our Cricut. The entire cake is covered in modeling chocolate, cause it just works awesome when making books! Hope you enjoy!

Little World Traveler First Birthday
I just realized that it’s been a while since I posted anything here. I don’t do many birthday cakes any more, but I really enjoyed making this one for a former bridal client. I had some artistic leeway on this cake, my only requirements were that it should be travel themed, contain an old map, and not be too girly. I can work with that!

Eyelet Lace Wedding Cake
This cake was covered in an ivory colored fondant. We then added white fondant bands. Royal icing was also used for some smaller details. The complete secret to a cake like this is to use Fondarific for the "white" part on this cake. You have to poke all the holes in the bands while on the work table, chill them so they don't lose their shape and then apply to the cake, Better when two people deal with the bands applications. It took a long time to cut all of the holes even with plunger cutters, so the extended work time of Fondarific was necessary. I tried it in Satin Ice as it would crack, break and doesn't get firm enough in the fridge to hold its' shape.

Flights Of Fancy 1St Birthday Cake
I work well with all my clients, but I have had a few that I just instantly "click" with. They really get the time and art that goes into the cakes I make. And they trust me enough to give me a basic theme and let me run with it. So I always go the extra mile to make them happy! This cake was to celebrate their son's first birthday. The cake is all buttercream, with the exception of a few fondant accents. The clouds were made by piping marshmallows into cloud shapes and then putting them on the cake. I loved the dimension they added, and they were delicious too!!

A Groom's Interest
This was a groom's cake I made recently for a wedding. The bride said she wanted a lot of the groom's interests reflected on the cake, and boy she wasn't kidding! I was afraid that once things got put together that the cake would look really, really messy, but I was pleased with the overall look. For those of you playing at home, see if you can spot all of these items! - Accurate pair of Air Jordon tennis shoes in black, red or white - Air Jordon box for the shoes - Beats Audio head phones in black, red or white - Panda Express box with orange chicken - Panda Express box with Lo Mein - Pokemon ball - Lakers team name and the number 24 - Guatemalan flag - Blue Power Ranger helmet

Raspberry Blackberry Succulent Wedding Cake
I really love this cake! Maybe because it's so different! The bride found and sent me the design and I only was able to change it slightly. Hope the original artist takes it as flattery! There is a little royal icing texture and light gray color on two of the tiers. There are vanilla bean specks all over and it really added a little "something". We used a mold for the raspberries (78 of them)and made a million little balls for the "black"berries (had to match the wedding colors and not nature this time). Many thanks to @costumeczar for making the succulents - they were perfect!

Bender From Futurama
We made this cake for a very good friend's wedding as a groom's cake. It seemed like a very simple design, but this cake just about kicked out butts! The eyeball / face area was the hardest part (of course) and we finally accomplished it by making a RKT "puck" that we glued to the cake using royal icing. We then wrapped that in modeling chocolate for the visor and inserted the candy melt eyeballs into the RKT. My biggest problem was that I used one of those food writer markers to draw the lines on the mouth and once we were at the wedding his teeth wanted to run. I was able to use a paring knife to scrape it away, but I have learned my lesson and trashed those darned food markers!

Beer Bottlecap Groom's Cake
This was a fairly easy cake to make, but it makes a big impact. And for groom's cakes, they are selling like hotcakes (for me anyway). I have another one on the books and 2 more quoted as of now. The flavors of this cake were inspired by the "Irish Car Bomb" drink. There's Guinness stout in the chocolate cake, Jameson whiskey in the ganache, and Bailey's Irish cream in the buttercream. The picture may not reflect it, but this is a pretty big cake, with 14 and 16-inch "tiers".
