Sea Turtle
This was a cake done for a Youth for Christ dessert auction. Their theme was "Hawaiian Shirts and Hula Skirts" and I didn't want to do anything "expected". So, what could be more Hawaiian then a sea turtle? Perhaps one with hibiscus and leaf Hawaiian print on its shell! This one was turtle inside and out - Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake with caramel and pecan filling, covered in dark chocolate ganache. Cake is covered in fondant, hand carved shell plate design then hand painted. Head is RKT covered in modeling paste after using cobblestone texture mat (flippers modeling paste, too), airbrushed then hand painted (which didn't work as well on the modeling paste...color beaded up). The board is 1/2" foam core board airbrushed with gradated blue to convey depth then covered with heated light corn syrup and crushed graham cracker on the "beach". I added more corn syrup mixed with baking soda to the shoreline which initially had LOTS of foam and bubbles, but they gradually decreased. The Kayro syrup took about a day to dry; but was a great surface for the cake as it could be made tacky with water to attach the cake!

Denim And Lace
Denim and Lace cake done for a dessert auction. Covered in fondant, airbrushed and dry brushed (for denim look). Fondant details. Levi's leather patch was made using a Melt 'n' Pour mold I made from an actual patch - fondant then brushed with a mixture of copper and old gold luster dust. The hardest part was mimicking the folds of the jean stack!

Gender Reveal Cake
Yeah, I didn't know what it was either... so, if you're curious, mom and dad to be are NOT told the sex of their child at their ultrasound - that amazing info is entrusted to the baker :) The INSIDE color of the cake will be either pink or blue.... When they cut the cake, they find out which they are having, a boy or girl, along with the rest of the friends and family attending - in this case, blue! (I was secretly hoping there would be twins, a boy and a girl, as this was a two tiered cake) The bride requested black and white, but I threw in the pink and blue centers to the gumpaste flowers just to give some "cute factor". She also wanted question marks incorporated, so I tried to make them as formal as possible to blend in some with the scrolls. This was sour cream almond cake with cream cheese filling. Hand-piped, black scrollwork.

Pascal
Pascal from Tangled cake done for Kolbi, my most loyal customer who turned 7 this year! My husband used his new welder to construct a frame for this one so Pascal didn't have to be lying down (I'm so blessed to have a husband who enjoys my hobby nearly as much as I do!). Pascal's body is Chocolate Cavity Maker with Marion berry filling and head and tail are RKT and Candy Clay - both covered in fondant and airbrushed; side bday cake also covered in fondant, fondant details. Mini cupcakes dipped in Candy Melts and then covered in Candy clay imprinted with design that mimicked the feel of the movie. Two things on this cake that bothered me and probably will forever.... First, I did not emboss the fondant I used to cover the body thinking I could do it once it was on the cake - bad idea - so the head and tail have a nice scaly appearance and the body doesn't! Second, my original design included a tail that was color shifting to match the bday cake (he's a chameleon after all).... I just ran out of time. Had I known that would happen, I'd have curled the tail in that adorable Pascal fashion! If anyone else wants to use that idea, I'd love to see the results!!!

Madison's Whimsical Cake
Three tier whimsical cake done for little Madison who was turning 1. Originally, the parents requested a whimsical cake with purple, pink and lime green color scheme; but later send me pictures of the plates and invitations they bought hoping I could incorporate that, too. The colors weren't vibrant on the plates, but I think they liked that I stuck with the brighter scheme (it matched Madison's energetic personality!). I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull off a whimsical cake without fondant (again, parent's request), but this turned out ok :) Candy clay details as I have no piping ability whatsoever!

Mickey Cake And Mini Cuppies
Cake done for a baby shower - their nursery theme is Mickey! Thought about doing Mickey silhouette cake pops, but have been doing so many min cuppies, that I thought that would be fun, too. The nice thing was, it afforded the ability to have 4 different filling flavors (chocolate cake was requested for cake and cuppies, so we did mocha, peanut butter/cream cheese, marionberry/buttercream and ganache/buttercream for fillings). Cuppies follow the instructions for Mickey cakepops on bakerella.com. I had to dip the yellow twice to get an even coverage.

Treasure Chest
Treasure cake done for the birthday of a repeat customer (she ordered the Chihuahua cake last year)... I like those :) Cake is 8 layers of sour cream almond cake with chocolate buttercream filling. Covered in fondant, fondant details (everything but the internal support is edible). Chest is airbrushed then brushed by hand. Fun cake to do - especially the detail work!

Generous Snowman
A cake I did for a "Dessert Dash" (an auction), the proceeds of which provides scholarships for kids to attend our church's summer camp. The event was a formal affair where each table sat 4 couples. While waiting to be served dinner, each table would together decide which of the 40 some desserts on display they wanted to bid on to have after dinner. Apparently, there is a possibility of a tie which explains the "dash" part of the event title... the tables which tie on their top bid elect a runner from the table and at "go", whichever reaches the MC first, wins the dessert! The snowman is chocolate cake with mocha filling for the bottom and middle sections, the head and top hat are RKT. The stump is also chocolate but with vanilla buttercream and marion berry filling. All covered in fondant, fondant details, hand painted bunny and tree. The verse was, hopefully, inspirational!

Fire Monkey
What a nightmare. This cake taught me the GREAT importance of proper framing for a sculpted cake. Waking up this morning expecting what I finished in the wee hours, I instead found my monkey had laid his head down to rest, too - crushing his chest in the process. UGH. Anyway, my fabulous husband snapped me out of my panic and we set his head on straight again! Body, legs and arms are chocolate cake, head, helmet and boots are RKT. All fondant covered, some airbrush, too little infrastructure!

Relay For Life
This cake was done for two dear friends who have fought and are now officially "survivors". I made this for her and her team, Levi Strauss, for the Relay for Life event here in town. Covered in fondant, fondant details. I made a mold of actual buttons and rivots for this cake. Denim pattern done with airbrush and faux technique with a dry brush.

Ogres Softball
Cake done for an end-of-season party for the Ogres Softball team. Menacing softball is RKT with chocolate modeling paste and fondant (she was based on their logo). The kicker with this cake is I do most all of my cakes into the wee hours and we had a power out! So, 3 hours were spent decorating by candle light!

White And Ivory Wedding Cake
This cake was actually three tiers, but was transported to the wedding site with the top tier off, so I wasn't able to get a final picture with the 6" and rose topper on top! This was a stacked 6, 8 and 10" cake covered in white fondant with ivory, offset, horizontal pleats and fondant ivory roses. I was not given a lot of direction on this cake aside from incorporating ivory, so I decided to go with simple and elegant. I hate the stress of wedding cakes and I found that having few expectations was quite helpful in keeping my head while making it!

50S Housewife Dress
Cake made for a tea with a 50s housewife theme. Skirt of dress is chocolate cavity maker cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. Bodice is RKT mixed with chocolate modeling paste (thanks for the hint, "slopokesgirl"). All covered in fondant. Used a cast iron type candle holder for the base to make a "dress form" look :)
