Wow!! Love everything about it.

I did not use a cutter for the flower. I "free-formed" it cutting it out with an Xacto knife.
  • Nov 16, 2012 by grandmomof1 in Birthday Cakes
gorgeous, lovely color combination. Do you mind telling me what cutter you used for the flower? Thank you

I used Albert Uster's silver on the number, dragees, and button on the center of the flower.

This cake was so fun to make! It actually turned out almost exactly like my drawing. I usually change the plan part way through decorating, but not this time! Each cake is a different flavor, white on the bottom, then chocolate, lemon, and topped with a chai bassinet. All buttercream except for the butterflies, which are not edible.

This cake was done for a friend of my cousin. I didn't really have an idea so I decided to try this bassinet. It didn't come out as well as I had hoped but I guess it was O.K. By the time the cake made it to the shower, the mother had made it to the hospital. The little girl decided to come early...they put the cake in the fridge and ate it when mother and baby came home.

This cake was really easy to make, and was a huge hit at the shower. After having two boys, my cousin FINALLY had a little girl. So, we wanted her shower to be nothing but pink and "girly". We made a 3-D castle out of foam board and poster board, and in the middle we put dry ice so that mist would be faintly surrounding the castle. That was the centerpiece. It was a princess theme, duh.... : )

This is one of two cakes for a surprise baby shower for a teacher at my boys' school. It's covered in a MMF/rolled buttercream combo. It was good to work with but I'm not sure I like the shinyness. It was much easier than I thought it would be to cover the head with fondant. I used an embosser to make a diamond pattern on the blanket and cut a fringe on the blanket. There's a pink MMF bow on her head. I painted on the face details with gel colors.

This is a white cake with White Chocolate mousse and raspberry filling. I used a hexagon pan and made 3 layers. I then cut each layer in half. I alternated fillings starting with the mousse.

This is marble cake with BC icing. The moon and stars are fondant. I got this idea from this website and changed it a bit. This is the first time I used fondant outside of the Wilton classes I took. I've always be intimitated by fondant, but found it was pretty easy to work with. Although, the shapes were very easy to do (not a lot of manipulation).

This was a last minute contribution for a girlfriend from church. This was my first time doing a tiered cake. And my first time making MMF. (That was an adventure!) The top tier is lemon cake with raspberry cream filling. The bottom layer is butter yellow cake with chocolate fudge filling (Mom-to-Be's request) My DH did all the writing on the cake. Frosting is buttercream.

This one didn't quite come out as I had planned. I took all my stuff down to my mom's house and baked and decorated there. I'll never bake outside my home again! Took way too long to find things and I couldn't get the creative juices flowing. At the last minute my mom said she wanted the pacifiers on it. I had made eight small white roses (one on each side of the large pink roses) but couldn't find my flower lifter and dropped one so I nixed the white roses.

As a thank you for my cousins wife, I made her a cookie message and mailed it. She has given me so many of her daughters clothes for my daughter, so I wanted a special thank you. I vacuum sealed them in the heart bags and taped the bags to a poster board to hold them steady, then put them in a tissue stuffed box...hope they make it safely. The regular cookies I made for a social event with the remaining dough. I bagged too early and messed some design up on the clothes cookies. Live and learn!

Frogs, flowers, pearls, and bows are gumpaste with petal and/or luster dust. Cake and covered in fondant the polka dots are fondant also. I s got to use my new fondant lifters for this and I loved them it makes the fondant so easy to smooth onto the cakes.

This is my 2nd ever baby shower cake - I had to "wing" this cake, as I wasn't given any theme/shower napkin at all. It is a strawberry sheet cake w/ crusting buttercream icing. I did the reverse shell (is it me, or do I use this technique in all my cakes?!) and I used the basketweave technique for the baby blanket. The dark pink in the blanket, is actually little candy heart sprinkles that I added. I made a "cloud pillow" for the sleeping baby. I had fun making this cake.

This cake was for a friend who's sister is expecting a baby. The cake was designed to somewhat match the shower invitation (colors and flowers). A couple of firsts - 1st time using Luster Dust (can't really tell it's on the pearls and shoestrings) and 1st time making a fondant shoe and swags. This cake was so fun to decorate, I just wish I could have gotten the icing more smooth. Yellow butter cake, chocolate buttercream, MMF accents.
