The ball pan is a ball in half and the two are filled with I believe one cake box mix...I used a scratch recipe for this one though. I did a trial run and cut too much off the bottom for a flat surface and didn't fil up each pan enough so the ball looked a little squished...better to fill the pan up a bit too much and bake on a lower heat than to not put in enough.
I used the sports ball pan to make the cake and used buttercream frosting. I had to let the frosting set for awhile and then used the tip of my candy thermometer to make the indentations being sure that they were offset because that's the way a real golf ball looks.
Wonderful job! Can you please tell me if you can do the golf ball - bc crust and indentions the night before its served- if so so i refridgerate the completed ball?

So, I have never used the ball pan before, how do you get it to stand up like that? Is it two cake mixes. One for each side?
