I made this cake for my mom's birthday. The idea is from one of Collette's cakes. It was a challenge.

wow...looks like the paper quilling where they scroll the teeny strips of paper into all different shapes...great job! it's amazing you could get them to stand up like that!

Actually, they are fondant. But now I would definitely use gumpaste. The fondant was brittle, but I had never used gumpaste before so I didn't realize how much nicer it would be.
