Semi Truck on Cake Central

1-9x13 and 1-11x15 were used to make this cake. Buttercream with fondant accents. There is a weak spot in the design right behind the cab where more support is needed to keep the cab from leaning backwards. Good learning lesson! :)

I started by cutting one of the cakes inhalf the long way, but I don't remember which one, to make the trailer. Torted it into 1 inch layers. Stacked two, then cut the third one on one end to look like where the trailer would attach to the cab(like a point). Then the cab was cut out of the other cake again with one inch layers. Two long ones to make the base and then just kept stacking to make the shape of the cab. I should have put support and a cardboard half way up the cab. the weight was too m...

much and the cake was compressing at the bottom of the back of the cab. I always stack my layers and cut the shape, then disassemble them and then fill so I can make an icing dam on the odd shapes. Iced, airbrushed- airbrushed black along the bottom to give the illusion of space under the truck. Added fondant accents, and viola! (let me know if you need more explanation! :) )

This is so awesome! I looked at your web site too...you do amazing cakes! I have a question.....are the tires cake or something else? A lot of people use donuts..but I like how your tires look!

Thanks!! The tires are fondant I cut out with a soup can and then imprinted a smaller cricle in the middle and painted that with silver luster dust.
