Aundrea....yes you just color the clear piping gel. I spooned out a hole in the cake and added icing in the hole to make it white, so the piping gel wouldn't be too dark when I added it. Once the hole and piping gel was prepared I just spooned the piping gel into the hole. The piping gel is thin enough that is forms like water. If you don't want to use piping gel, you can color clear syrup and use it for the water. It's a little thinner. Hope this helps.
