Disaster Purse Cake
Where do I start, what didn't go wrong. To start with this was a cake for a 13 yr old girl, whose mom called me with last minute changes. She said her daughter wanted a spiderman cake. I told her that I had already started the purse but that I could do spiderman colors. The bc never crusted. Could have been because all the gel coloring to make red? This was my first purse. So I followed the directions here on cc, but because my crumb coat never crusted I could not shape. So many lessons learned.

This looks great. I never would have known you had so much trouble with it. I bet the girl loved it. :)
For deep reds, I used the foux fondant bc recipe, and it never fails in crusting well no mater the amount of gel coloring I apply to it (recipe call for cake flour in it). And I'm glad to tell you, that te inconviniences you encountered in the making of this cake, had a wonderful outcome, a great cake.
