Blue Dragon Cake

Blue Dragon Cake on Cake Central

This cake was done for a boy's 10th birthday. The mother had a ceramic figure that she wanted copied. Only my second attempt at "sculpting" a cake but I was happy with the result. White cake w/MMF everything. Hope you like!

Thanks guys! Yes, I did place every scale individually. Ugh. I used the three individual rose petals in the Wilton Sugarpaste kit. I did take one pic once the pieces were together with the crumb coat on...he's pretty sad looking at that point

Hi everyone...as requested, I just uploaded the pic of the dragon at the crumbcoat stage. Thank you all for such wonderful comments. Plse feel free to pm if you have any questions. Oh yes...sizes...started with a 12 inch round (3in high) and had an extra 10 in on hand, but only needed enough from that one to do the head.

Wow your cake is amazing one question how did you get that color I took my son to watch aragon now he wants a dragon for his birthday and your cake looks quite like the one from the movie. Do you start with white mmf then use luster dust or do you use blue and then luster dust you help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there swe3ts...well, I started with white MMF and added a LOT of americolor Navy Blue, and when that wasn't dark enough, I added some black to darken it up...but I didn't mix it completely in so it looked a little "marbly". Once the dragon was covered with the scales I luster dusted with blue and silver. Hope this helps! PM if you would like more info :)

I love this cake! I have been wanting to try a realistic dragon for some time now. Can you please email me with instructions and as many pics as you can? I would greatly appriciate it. My sis has a collection of the same dragon sculptures. She would love a cake to match. Thanks.

Do you remember what size cake board you needed for the dragon? And this may be obvious, but is the grass you made to cover the board Icing or Fondant?

Also, would you be willing to please repost the pic of the crumb-coated dragon?

Thx!
