I made this cake for my sister, the idea came from an issue of Martha Stewart Living. Marble cake with buttercream frosting. The nest is coconut flakes and cinnamon.
I baked the cake in a 10 inch oven safe mixing bowl. Then I cut a cresent shaped piece off each side of the cake. The final piece should look like a football. The cresent pieces were suppose to be used to make the tail and head, but I couldn't get the "head" and "tail' to stay put, I figured they would collapse when frosting was applied. So the head and tail were made with mounds of buttercream instead.
