Pokemon Birthday Cake

Pokemon Birthday Cake on Cake Central

My 4 year old is totally into Pokemon and insisted on a pokemon cake for his birthday this weekend. This cake took 12+ hours to create. Less than 5 min to demolish! It was totally worth all the effort for the smiles on his face. Each character on the side is a separate frozen transfer. Black runs really bad, so I was able to limit this problem by gently placing a paper towel every 10 min to absorb the beads of condensation to make a crisper image.

Each of the side images and the ENTIRE top of the cake are buttercream transfers. The background is part of the transfer. That's how I've done them since I learned the technique b/c I (personally) prefer the flush look. It was very time consuming applying/blending/smoothing the 12 transfers on the side, but so worth it for the look on my 4 y/o's face when he saw "his" cake :)

Actually, I found a pokemon site online and downloaded the graphics from there and re-sized them to what I needed. Thanks.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say "flawless". Thanks though. Like any "artist", I can see where all the errors are. Esp where the black ran and I had to work to fix it.

Thanks SweetCreations. Yes, he was quite enthusiastic about it. Got tons of photos of him w/it too! I can't wait to start the next cake in a few weeks!
