Thanks to the inspiration of Sylvia Weinstock and Scott Clark Woolley, this is my first endeavor into the wonderful world of gumpaste flowers. Not bad for a beginner, huh?
They are a gumpaste/fondant mixture which was colored with gel colors and later (after they dried) I dusted them with Luster dust in the same colors and steamed them for that wonderful shine. I used the instructions for the lilies from Scott's book "Cakes by Design" with my own cutters.
Last year I met Sylvia in NYC and she got me all excited about Gumpaste flowers. When I got back I had some contact with Scott who gave me lots of encouragement. Thanks Scott!
The cake was a commission from a special needs adult woman who was turning 50 and she approached me saying "it's my 50th birthday and I want to do something special so I'm ordering one of your cakes, that's my treat." All I could think was "wow, I guess I've arrived!"
WOW! Sitting here with my jaw wide open!!! Love them!!! Do you mind sharing the instructions on the lilies? If you don't mind? Thank you , Nicole, [email protected]
This is another cake I show my students to help them "think outside the box." Who said calla lilies only come in white?? I think this look works well!!
