This was my other fair entry from last night for the Special Occasion/Parties cake division. I used royal icing and painted with food coloring after it dried. The bottom collar broke into 4 pieces while I was putting it together! I "glued" it to the base with more royal icing. This is my first royal iced cake.

You know I think that the cake looks FANTASTIC...but I'm just curious the whole thing is iced in royal...how does that taste and cut?

I have no idea how it tastes. I've seen them done this way in books but this is the first i've ever attempted! I don't plan on eating it because it will be sitting out in the heat until Sunday. I figured it would hold up better this way.
