Basket of Fall Leaves

This is my fair entry that I dropped off last night for the novelty cake/other division. It was supposed to be another bushel of crabs cake but I ran out of time to make the crabs. I had made the leaves last Thanksgiving to make a turkey cake that never got made so I improvised!

I have a cake photo that has the Fall/Harvest look also w/c I used real Maple leaves as pattern. love yur cake :D

Thanks! Like I said - this was last minute - these leaves were supposed to be a turkeys tail but they worked in a pinch! I saw your pic - beautiful and congratulations!

This is a neat cake did you have the leaves frozen do they keep well?

I just kept the leaves in a glad container. Just make sure they are completely dry. They do not need to be frozen or refrigerated.

That's great! How did you get the basket/flowerpot shape? I tried to make a flower pot cake this weekend and baked the mixture in a terracotta flower pot - it all went horribly wrong!

This one was baked in a flower pot as well. The last bushel of crabs cake I made I used round pans and it was much easier to carve the shape that way. i still need to post that picture.
