Nature Cake

This is my entry for the birthday category at the SC 2006 state fair. I won first place and sweepstake award (which is equivalent to best of show) for this cake. All flowers were hand pulled, they took a lot of time to make! Trees and rocks are all fondant. Waterfalls is royal icing. This is a retake of my other nature cake which won CC's nature contest.

Those flowers look tiny, are they really that small? What do you mean "hand pulled"? Sorry, I'm a newbie decorater! I love it, great job!

yes, those flowers were really really small, about 1/4 to 3/8 inch across. Hand pulled flowers means no cutters were used. I cut the petals by hand and then pull and shape each petal. Tedious work by they are lovely.

Totally amazing!! I know how fiddly regular sized pulled flowers are to make,I don't know how you coped making so many so small. You must have such nimble fingers. You are so talented!

Hi Anh! Your cakes are beautiful. I'm amazed we both found our way to this site. I saw this cake at the fair and can't imagine how much time you must have spent on it. All the cakes on your site are gorgeous! I think Beth would be proud of both of us!
