So cool!! Did you actually make them out of tootie rolls from the store? If so, how did you get them soft enough to work with?

Congrats - that is beautiful. Dawnell - I learned the technique from my Wilton instructor. Basically same concept as a fondant rose. You can either microwave for a few seconds or just knead it in your hands to soften then roll them out. I luv them!!!!

I have "the wilton school Decorating cakes" book and use the same dirrections for fondant rose making..I use the small ones about 6 of them but it came out too big so I would think 4 would work for a normal size rose?! I put them in the microwave for about 10 seconds so that they would be more workable...!

Thanks! Unfortunely I've already ate my all the tootie rolls out of our halloween candy. I LOVE THEM! I guess I'll have to go buy more and think about a diet after halloween, Oops then it's Thanksgiving. Oh well!

From different threds I've read you can also use starbursts...That will be my next try, so if you have some of those in the halloween candy give them a try an let me know how they work :)

I was just going to mention making them out of Starbursts! I have two cakes in my gallery where I used starburst roses! They are small pics taken with a not so great camera though! I did them last February as a demo for Valentines Day! Just be extremely careful how long you microwave the candy as it will soften quickly and get very very hot! Tootsie Rolls can just be worked in your hands to soften up. Your rose is very beautiful!!!!!!

Sounds strange but it helps if the tootsie rolls are "fresh". The fresh ones are actually fairly soft (and yummy). I was at an auction where they had tr's sprinkled all over the tables. I got a bit bored so I had told a friend you could make roses from them-so I did- an then I ate them. She couldn't believe it and they really don't take too terribly long to make. I don't know where all to get them but there are different flavors too! Beautiful rose, by the way!
