jensprung - for the top of the stump, I put 2 different colors of buttercream in a bag (light brown and dark brown). Setting the cake on a turntable and using a flat tip (can't remember the number), I started in the middle going in circles to the outside of the cake. After completely covering the top, I used a long, flat spatula to smooth out the top. I put the spatula flat on the cake and spun the turntable. That's it . . . does this make sense? Good luck!
really cute idea, well done!
