This cake was made for the Colonel of the MCJROTC program at school. It was COMPLETELY inspired by regymusic who was kind enough to give me information on how she did it. I used buttercream instead of fondant, but with fondant accents. It is a 10" double layer chocolate cake with a 8" yellow on top. The Semper Fi insignia on top is white chocolate painted with luster dust. Man do I love that stuff!!! The fondant rope around the bottom is also painted heavily with luster dust.

Beautiful! That cake is such a good interpretation of the Marine's dress blues. Gorgeous!

Thank you-it took a lot of Americolor Navy to get that color right!!

Great looking cake. Love the blue!

The EGA is very cool! From a mold I presume! Another way to achieve that shade of blue is to use Americolor Royal Blue with Americolor Violet! The Navy Blue alone didn't do it for me for my Navy cakes!

Yes, the EGA is from a mold. Actually, I added black and burgundy to acheive it-and a LOT of it! Thanks for the tip! I'll try those colors next time. I was just informed that this cake made the Colonel tear up and I'm so thrilled about that!! I know that means it touched him very much.

I found the mold at my local cake supply store. She carries a wide variety of chocolate molds. I have bought a few online through Cakes by Jan and Oasis Baking Supply. I hope that helps.
