Uss Silversides Submarine

Uss Silversides Submarine on Cake Central

This is my first sculpted cake and first time doing fondant on anything besides rounds! I tried luster dust for the first time too, in some places it is a little blotchy because I didnt have a big brush to put it on with. It is for a man's birthday who works on the retired USS Silversides submarine. Overall I am satisfied with the way it turned out, but I hope to get a lot better at this type of decorating.

This cake is great. I can't believe how smooth and beautiful the fondant is... great work! I have a friend who wants to do the BEATLES yeloow submarine for her daughter. I thought I could do a take on this in yellow with the accents as they are on the concert poster. Could I bug you for some info on the actual cakes that are underneath and for any special tips you might have. I'm nervous but I'd really like to do this for her!!Thanks so much for your awesome creation to be inspired from!

I used 2 9x13 cakes stacked, though I carved so much off that I probably could have just used 1, cut in half and stacked. Definitely carve it while frozen. I hadnt done anything like this before either, so I understand, I was very nervous too!
