Tiki Hut Fiji

Tiki Hut Fiji on Cake Central

Fun Cake to make for someone who wanted something different than the traditional seashell tropical cake. Couple was getting married in Fiji and this was for their reception. Palm Trees were molded and dried for a week or two ahead of time, as well as the top of the hut...Flowers in side were of gum paste and lay on the island shape; fish and reeds decorated right on cake.

Sooo cool I love it! You say the top was made of gumpaste? What did you use under to keep the shape? And how did you get that nice realistic looking hue on it?

how did you get the top to keep it's shape? Did you put something underneath it while it dried. I have to do a suprise Luau cake for an anniversary and I think that would be perfect!! Minus the Fiji shape of course. If you could give me any pointers I would really appreciate it. I can give you my email if you can. This cake is awesome! Good job.

The water in the south pacific...as well as most of the Caribbean is the palest of blue, must not be showing up very well on your monitor is all!

Ginger, I was just asked to do a luau cake for a birthday party. I too would like some more details on the top of the hut. What is under the top section and how did you make the grass for the hut- it looks like individual pieces of fondant. this is fabulous and would really appreciate you sharing.

This is one of the first cakes I came across on CC when I first found the site over a year ago. I was blown away then and I'm still blown away. Seeing it on the front page reminded me that I'd never left a comment (didn't know how to then). One of my all time favorites--thanks for sharing it. It brighens my day every time I look at it!

This is beautiful!! How did you do the palm trees? Did you wrap the pillars? I want to be able to get the pointy parts of the trunk on my palm trees...
