This was my first wedding cake. I'm an amateur decorator and had never taken a class or had any instruction--I just learned from books and the internet. I've done two wedding cakes since, but this one's still my favorite.
Covered in fondant with royal icing detail and gum paste flowers.
This is amazing work for a first wedding cake....keep decorating!
Simply Elegant! Looks like something you would find in a magazine!
I'm very impressed - it's beautiful! You are very talented!
You did a fantastic job! Love your color combination.
Very pretty!! Nicely done ;-D
That is so pretty - especially since its your first cake. I am working on my first wedding cake right now.
Very pretty---I can see why it's your favorite
Awesome! This is so beautiful! Excellent job! It's now one of my favorites too!
What do you use to secure the ribbon wrapped around the cake? I want to do this on a wedding cake but have never done it.
I put the ribbon on after stacking the cakes at the location. I just secured the ends with a dab of royal icing.
Wow! That's gorgeous. Very impressive for your first cake!
is the top layer cake?
It's a three-tier cake. The roses and tulle on the top are stuck in a styrofoam dome.
I just love it! I might try to duplicate it for my brother in law. What size pans did you use and are they double?
Thank you! I used 14-10-6, 2" deep pans--double layers. So each tier is about 4 inches tall. I made all the gumpaste roses on the top on toothpicks. I used Wilton Buttercup Yellow paste color for the roses and the fondant.
Ahhh, Holly I have to agree with you it is a stunning cake and I can see why it is your favorite. Great job! Hope my first turns out half as good as yours.
I love that you made the middle tier a different color. Your cakes are going into my favorites. Incredible!
How very pretty. Eye Candy!
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!
My Favorite too!
That is absolutely beautiful.
May I know how do you secure the styrofoam cone to the cake? If it is just laid on top, wouldn't it fall off due to movement, wind, etc..?
Is the styrofoam wrapped in fondant also?
So pretty, good job! The ribbon reminds me of a veil, I like it!
Very pretty cake. Congrats! You did a wonderful job! :)
very pretty. i really need to learn to do gumpaste roses.
Very nice work :D
so very pretty...
This is beautiful. It looks like the whole cake is covered in sheer lace!
Wow, you are definitely a natural! That is amazing!
mydelights--I just placed the styrofoam on top. The reception was indoors, so no wind. I didn't wrap it in fondant (thought that would work!), but to hide the spaces between the roses, I loosely wrapped tulle around it before sticking the roses in (the roses were on toothpicks)
