Cardinals Baseball Cap Cake

Cardinals Baseball Cap Cake on Cake Central

This was my second attempt working with fondant. I used MMF. The cake was for my father's 69th birthday. I didn't have time for the bill of the cap to dry using fondant alone, so I used a piece of cardboard covered with fondant for a stonger bill. Next time, I may try to use gumpaste for making the bill of the cap. It is a 6 inch cake that is topped with a half of a ball pan cake. This cake made about 10 servings. If I need more servings in the future, I will put it on a home plate shaped cake.

That is the best ball cap cake I've seen to date!!! Do you mind if I ask you how you did the bill? If you could PM me, I'd appreciate it. Great Job!!!!

If I saw this on a table, I might accidentally try it on. It definitely does not look amateur. Absolutely great job!

Thanks for the kind comments. My father is such a huge Cards fan that I HAD to try and make this for him. LOL For the bill, I just cut a piece of cardboard in the shape of the bill from an actual cap. Then I bent it to hold the shape, and then covered it with MMF. Then I used the Wilton cutter/embosser tool and used the wheel that makes stitching. Then I just freehanded four rows of that. HTHs

If the Cards win the world series this year, I might make a cake like this so my husband can take it to work. You did a great job! ;)

Thanks! I made MMF for this cake, so I colored it while making the fondant. I used shortening to help make the fondant easier to handle, which ended up giving it a more shiny appearance.

Awesome! Simply Awesome! Can I ask how you got it so shiny? Was the fondant colored before or after you put it on? I'm new at the fondant so am probably asking dumb questions. Thanks
