Nature Center Cake With Dragonfly

Nature Center Cake With Dragonfly on Cake Central

This was a small donation cake to go with a certificate for a larger cake at a later date. I wanted the cake to have no boards or supports, so I stacked a single 6" on a single 8" and covered it with one piece of fondant--worked great. The decorations are done to match the cake plate. The dragonfly is hand modeled gumpaste and painted with luster dust. Well received and lots of fun to do.

The colors are so soft and natural looking - perfect for the theme. The cake and plate look as though they are one piece - very artistic and elegant. What brand of colors do you use? I can never get mine so soft and natural.

I use AmeriColor pretty much exclusively. i mix a lot of colors by sight to match things--like the cake stand-- and sometimes add small amounts of black or brown to mute brighter shades. I also dry dusted the cake with gold pearl and then painted some accents with the same luster dust. HTH. Thanks for the compliment!
