This is one of my very first cakes years ago. My husband told me I was in charge of making the cake, one that looked like our friends dog, as a gag party. I was terrified that it would turn out embarressingly awful, yet to this day it remains one of my all time favorites. buttercream and coconut pecan with chocolate detail.

thank you! i think i studied a photo first, then traced a pattern, cut it out, laid it on a round cake, then carved and iced in the details. using the coconut pecan icing helped with the dog hair effect.

Wonderful cake-that face is awesome, it's hard to imagine getting the eyes just right, but you nailed it. You're so right about the coconut pecan adding texture-you can see it in the photo, and the paw prints give it that something special. Fantastic cake.
