The inspiration for this was a Candle holder. It's classy but at the same time evokes the spirit of halloween. :-)

Hey, I own that candle! I thought the cake looked familiar when I first saw it!
simple technique.... start in the center of cake.... make circle going outwards and then drag a toothpick from the center to the edge of cake.... :-)
AMbushmom..once the buttercream is finished in the mixer, we hand whip what we are going to use... I apply it onto the cake, then with a scrapper I take the excess icing off. Meanwhile "squaring" the cake up. I then dip a discover credit card into warm water and smooth the sides.

Morphis1208, the web is choc bc with black color... it is probably the reflection of the light from the camera. ..Sheriw, How close is it to the candleholder?
This cake is cooler than cool. A couple of ?'s. What choc. bc recipe did you use and how did you get the orange so so orange?
Ambushmom.... the bakers make the icings for us... (yeah i'm spoiled) I can find out for ya... chefmaster orange food color... I added a lot... but of course as the icing sits it will get dark...

hehehe, you should send a video of you using the discover credit card to smooth a cake in to American Express. Maybe t hey will use it in one of their commercials for what to do with the competition! Love the cake design. I don't usually care for halloween cakes, but this is GREAT!
