Despite the "not happy"-ness of this cake (as you say), I love that you stuck with it and made it work. It's the innovative nature of cake artists that makes the rest of us want to do more and do better. Now, let's see Duff make a hot air balloon cake this THIS one!!! :D
Its upright by a "floating stand" type similar to the Wilton one, that my hubby built (thanks to Doug for idea!)...however in this photo it is now weakened as a joint loosened in transport and swiveled the cake completely sideways. Not sure how much force it will take to repeat that. I guess the customer will let me know. Thanks.
I think it's fabulous!!!! You did a great job. I was so excited to see it in the photos on the front page, having read the thread!!! Looks like it is doing great!

I pulled this up to use as a reference and I definitely have to give you your props. Your work is outstanding and I honestly dont know how you got it to look so perfect! The cake was so heavy on the one I made that it pushed down hard. I made the basket bigger on mine for stability. Whatever you did you did amazingly! Im so impressed with yours!
Thanks so much all! The basket is actually dangling....the stand is about 3 inches up the bottom of the balloon, and the rest of the cake is strawed/boarded in layers up from the foundation board. Thanks to Doug for his structural idea!

This may show my ignorance, but how do you cut and serve it?
It is truly a work of art..... :)
