Treasure Chest

Treasure Chest on Cake Central

This cake is all edible, so is the map. The chest was made with (3) 9 x 13 cakes stacked, and the lid is also (3) 9 x 13 cakes stacked, then carved. I scored the fondant with a gumpaste tool to give it that wood grain look. Kitagrl gave me that idea and the idea for the coloring. I used cocoa powder in water then painted it on for the brown color. Jewels are from "thejewelsofdenial.com" I would recommend buying them individually wrapped, as we had problems with them sticking together.

Oh man this one is WAY nicer than mine! Yours is perfect! Hey did you attach the lid to the board? that's a good idea, I didnt do that so my fondant lid was not handling the dowels as well. This is GREAT!

this is by far one of my favorite chest cakes!!! could you share how you did it so the lid didn't come off. i'm supposed to do a pirate themed party for one of my little cousins and i know he would die for a cake like this. t.i.a

I had three dowels at cake level in the back. One in each corner, and one in the middle. Then I had three more dowels, taller, in the middle of the cake. One dead center, and the side ones where halfway between the edge of the cake and the center dowel. The lid was made on a cake board, and I simple set it on the treasure chest with the dowels. We easily took it off and put it back on. HTH.

I love your woodgrain...excellent. I especially love all the little details, like how you luster dusted the candy necklace in silver. Your treasure map and skull are excellent!!
