This time, here is the cake at its destination, and with the hood of the bassinette put on. Problem was, even though I had made the hood of gum paste almost a week ahead, it was very humid here, and the stuff never totally set up like I expected. So I told "Mom" that we were going to fold down the hood so everyone could see the babies' faces (which I need help with sculpting ... I thought they looked like little old men, not beautiful little girl babies!). Notice the blocks on the dresser?

The dresser is 4 layers deep: 4"x8" and a small oval for the bassinette. After the baking, it probably took me the better part of 5-6 hours to complete. Cake is fudge chocolate chunk, covered in chocolate icing and white chocolate "clay" ruffles, blanket, babies and rug (which was hand-painted with gel food colors). Dark chocolate paste covered all sides of the dresser and made the "drawers". The same white and chocolate clay made all the accoutrements on top of the dresser.

On this cake, I sat down with Mom and Grandma and discussed the ideas they had and the decorating theme they were using for the shower. Since they already knew they were having twin girls, and had given them each a name, I got to thinking that putting them in a bassinet would be too cute for words. Well, you just HAVE to have a dresser, handpainted chocolate rug, etc., etc., etc..... I guess my brain was really "on" this time! LOL And this was my FIRST TIME working with chocolate paste!
