First of all, the inspiration for this cake, was Lindy Smith's "Indian Wedding Cake" I wrote to her, and let her know that I was going to try it. She sent me a very encouraging reply.
But I had a hard time with the dark colours. In the photos it looks really patchy. In reality it was OK, and the purple was a rich regal colour.
The topper is made of pressed sugar with a royal icing net. The bride and groom wrote messages to each other and I sealed them in the little box. The idea for the messages came from emma from emmascakes. I wrote to her too and she said, "Go for it!"
Thanks for looking.
Karen
Oh, the cake is rich fruit cake, marzipan, and then fondant.

impressive cake. Where did you get those lifts?
karennayak 9/20/06 at 8:54pm
Thanks all! I had a lot of fun doing this one, as I love drawing and painting, so I free-handed all of it. The lifts... I made a scale drawing, based on my cake design, and got it made by a metal fabricator.

How expensive is that to get a metal fabricator to make those lifts? thanks. beautiful work.

tanyacakes, I live in India, so getting it done was quick, easy and very very cheap! It cost me the equivalent of 10 USD for the pair of lifts.
