Baby Shower Cake 1

Baby Shower Cake 1 on Cake Central

This is my first attempt with fondant after I graduated from Wilton Class 3 (I actually constructed the cake for my final "exam") I am very proud!!!

For the laundry basket...I bought a very small tupperware, greased it with shortening, and layed the fondant over the top. My instructor helped me to form it over the lip so it had some definition. I let it dry a day and then took it out and flipped it over to dry the other side. After about 8 hours I gingerly pushed it against the table (right side up) so it would flatten the bottom to stand on its own. Lastly, I painted it with yellow food paste and added pearl dust for some shimmer.

Oh...forgot to add--I made the blankets/clothes one by one and draped them over the side. Once I stationed the baby I filled the basket with more blankets to fill any negative space. Thanks so much for the compliments!!!

It's truly adorable...I was already planning on making the clothesline cake for my sister's shower and now I think I'll try the laundry basket on top. Thanks for the instructions!
