After Debbie Brown's Sugar Plum Fairy
I made this for my daughter's first birthday (just for the immediate family and my mother-in-law and sister-in-law). I'll be making something else for the party tomorrow. This was for practice and is my first attempt at modeling fondant by hand. Actually it's only the third time I've ever covered a cake with rolled fondant period. Hopefully with a bit of practice, I'll get better
Absolutely beautiful. Great job.
That is so precious! I just tried modeling with MMF for the first time and I was not nearly as successful as you. GREAT JOB!
very well done.
your cake is beautiful-- so frilly
i love the idea and how you made it! can you share how you make all of the frills? i think i have an idea but my idea seems too difficult for me. perhaps your way is more doable for me. if you don't mind sharing?
Sure. The book says to use a Garrett cutter - I used two different sized biscuit cutters - to make a circle of fondant that has a scalloped edge. Next, take a toothpick and use it like a mini rolling pin over the scalloped edges to make them thin and frilly. Then cut the circle with the toothpick so that it's a somewhat straight piece and attach to the cake.
oh. wow. that's amazing! the more i appreciate this cake you made now that i know how you made it. plus the figure too! i hadn't done any of those yet. you did really great for the first of this kind!
Thank you so much. I'm hoping to do better though next time.
Thanks LBM! That's the great thing about having a boy and girl(s). I get to do both! lol
Very nice job. I love the way you varied the colors. I don't get to do "girly", I have boys.
OH MY! what a lot of work! Your ruffles are great and so is the rest of this one!
You really do great work!
How Beautiful! The hair is amazing!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the technique with the rest of us who are "ruffling" challenged, lol.
