Princess Pillow Cake
This was my special cake of the weekend. It was for my 6 year old niece. I've been wanting to try a pillow cake for a long time and finally got to do one. The base is a 8" round, the middle cake is a 9" square cut to shape, and the top is a 8" square pan. The tiara was made out of gumpaste and hand painted. The whole cake was luster dusted and the pearls were gumpaste.
terrific looking pillows!
Cute! I have to do one next week... How do you get the quilted effect. I'm familiar w/ the diamond imprint, but looks like yours is "extra"-quilted...?
Thanks for the comments. I cut a strip of paper about an inch wide and used that as my pattern. I then used the smallest ball tool to indent each cross line then used one of the other tools to make the pressed in look....or whatever you call it. When I put the luster dust on - it really gave the cake more depth.
Did you put the luster dust on dry, or did you paint it on? This is an awesome cake!!!
it is fantastic
wonderful! Bet your family was blown away by this cake!
it's beautiful!! i've been thinking of doing this for my DD's second birthday.
Thank you all!!!! This was a fun cake to do, I was very pleased when it was all done. Spunkywan, the luster dust is put on dry. I actually used a violet pearl luster dust and that gave it a purple shimmer.
You never cease to amaze me!
Jennianne - you are much too kind! Thanks All.
Gorgeous!
OOOHHH!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's absolutely beautiful!
WAY CUTE!!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks marilenacd, no school, I'm basically self taught and learn a lot from this web site. I followed instructions from Cakes to Dream On by Collett Peters for cutting/stacking the pillows. Don't say you can't - it just takes practice! Every cake I do, I try to learn a new technique. Never be scared to just try it!
WOW beautiful ...I want to make a cake for my little daughter next birthday in a month but this one is amazing...I can't...Did you go to a culinary school to learn this techniques?.Sorry to ask but i'm new on this art I only went to a little course and i want to learn more...
