First Diamond/quilted Pattern

First Diamond/quilted Pattern on Cake Central

This was my first attempt with a diamond or quilted pattern. I used the plastic impression that is available which made it easy. The bride wanted no more than 2 inches between tiers so I used styrofoam to separate and insert the roses into. Problem was that the stems were pretty flaccid and it took a while to insert them!

very simple and extremely elegent....my hats off to you! I'd love this cake if I got married again! Beautiful job!

the cake itself, was it a fruitcake, chocolate, etc? Did the frosting make peaks when you removed the stamper?? How long did you allow it to dry. I want ot make a cake like this (practice) and that is y I'm asking all these questions, if u don't mind!!

Tazalexis: Cake was french vanilla, chocolate and yellow. I let the icing air crisp for a while (?actual time but longer probably better) then dusted the impression before using. I didn't have any "peaks" once I did that.

This is so well executed. I tried the impression mat and just couldn't make it work - but you inspire me to try again. This is so lovely!

Thanks for all your comments!! I used buttercream icing and allowed it to air crisp before using the impression. Also dusted the impression with cornstarch/confectioner sugar mix. I used a sharpened dowel rod to make holes for the roses first due to the flaccid stems!

Tazalexis: not sure what you mean regarding what the cake was made of. The cake is covered with buttercream. Is that what you meant?

Beautiful Cake. What are the "dots" made of? I can't believe it's iced in buttercream, you do an excellent job with smoothing your cake.

Jill-o, I think you can order the impression from Earlene Moore's web site. That is where I got mine. The buttercream recipe is similar to the Wilton Snow White Buttercream only I don't use meringue powder in it.

How did you assemble the cake? I know you said you used foam for the flowers but is it a cake stand? or is the cake just sitting on a cake board, foam, and then cake (sorry if that is not clear)? and about how many roses did you use?

CAubert20: I purchased styrofoam circles from a craft store. They were 2 inches high. My cakes were on cake circles (cardboard) so it is cake, foam, cake etc. I had about 65 roses available. That would differ depending on the size roses you get. When one would be too large, I would just remove some petals (then used them to sprinkle on the table) Hope this helps. Let me know if any more questions!

Where did you get the plastic impression and did it come with instructions, also what buttercream recipe did you use, I tryed the Wilton recipe and thought it didn't taste very good and was hard to use thanks

This is very beautiful! You did an excellent job. I have to do this cake next week minus the diamond pattern. Thank you for sharing about the styrofoam, I am going to try that!

Did you dowell the cake or did you just put it together at the reception? Also, what frosting did you use for the dots at the bottom of each layer, fondant or the white buttercream?

on

Happymommy: I assembled it at the reception hall. The florist left the flowers for me and I placed them in the styrofoam between each tier of cake. I used buttercream for all. No fondant on this one!

That is not what I intended to say! I have my 2 year old in my lap and it is hard to type! :) any way, I love the cake and I would love to try it myself. How did you do the pattern for the diamonds? Did you measure or just press the mold in by eye bolling it? Hope that makes sense.
