Nadia's ;first Birthday Cake
I decided to design this cake around her dress. The skirt was red with white dots and the lady bug on the top had jewels on the wings. On the bottom of the dress there was a fine triming of the black and white gingham ribbon. I embelished it a little more and added the vines to the second layer to give it some personality. I was pretty happy with it, but think it would have gone better with an easier to work with frosting.
This is only the 4th cake I've made so I have no clue what the paper towel method is, but am interested in knowing. I had to put the layer of white frosting under the ribbon because the red coloring was soaking through onto the ribbon, any tips besides not coloring that area from the start?
This is a very cute cake, the colors go well together. I agree your frosting is a bit lumpy, have you tried the paper towel method to get it smoother?Also when attaching a ribbon you might want to use dots of clear gel instead.
